The VE Crew team recently supplied technical production facilities and crew to Channel 4’s Time Crashers. Shot earlier this year for Wall to Wall, the six part show followed ten celebrities as they experienced life through six different time periods of British history, from Medieval to Edwardian eras.
The programme required extensive resources and careful planning, so we were involved at an early stage with pre-production meetings and recces across the six UK locations.
We supplied six Sony PDW-F800 cameras and a Sony F55 camera with Angenieux 30-80mm, Angenieux 16-42mm and Zeiss 70-200mm zoom lenses, all wirelessly linked to a Director’s gallery using the Boxx TV Meridian system.
Working closely with DoP James Clarke and Director Simon Dinsell, we were able to ensure that the crew had the resources they needed to cover all eventualities. The wireless system worked very well in challenging locations (including castles with four foot thick walls) allowing the Director to view live action simultaneously across multiple camera positions. A Jimmy Jib was supplied as a versatile shooting option and an Optocopter was on hand for aerial filming, weather permitting!
Our team at base managed the logistics for the twenty strong crew as they moved around the country and were on hand for technical support at all times throughout the shoot.
